Love Without Limits | How to Find Peace and Comfort in God’s Love Pt.1

Do You Truly Love the Act of Giving Love?

Have you ever stopped thinking about what it means to love someone, especially your spouse? In our marriage and relationship coaches’ journey, we’ve discovered that many people think they know what love is but often struggle to put it into practice. Today, we want to discuss the concept of “love without limits” and how finding peace and comfort in God’s love can transform your relationship with your spouse.

Conditional Love vs. Unconditional Love

We often say we love our spouse, but there’s a condition attached. True love is about giving without expecting anything in return, but that can be hard if we don’t have a strong relationship with God. If we don’t truly love God and allow God to love us, we can’t truly love our spouse.

The word “love” gets thrown around a lot in our daily lives, but there are different types of love: agape (unconditional love), romantic love, and brotherly love. When we get married, it’s crucial to understand the kind of love we’re committing to and study love from a spiritual perspective.

Love is a Decision, Not an Emotion

It’s easy to get caught up in the emotions that come with love, but love itself is not an emotion – it’s a decision. Choosing to love your spouse means committing to treating them well, regardless of your feelings at any given moment. This kind of love is built on a strong faith in God.

According to 1 John 4:7-8, “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God because God is love.” This scripture highlights the importance of having a relationship with God to love others, especially your spouse, truly.

Putting God First in Your Relationship

It’s important to remember that a successful relationship requires putting God before everything else, including your spouse. When we prioritize our relationship with God, we strengthen our connection with our spouse and set ourselves toward a more fulfilling marriage.

In many relationships, problems arise when we lose sight of our connection with God. To know God is to experience God, not just knowledge. When you truly know and love God, you can love, serve, and cherish your spouse in a way that reflects God’s love for both of you.

Learning How to Love from the Heart of God

When we learn to love from the heart of God, we can overcome even the most challenging situations in our marriages. It’s essential to be open to change and growth, even if you don’t have all the answers. This might involve seeking clinical counseling, deep self-reflection, or addressing past traumas to release emotional strongholds.

As you embark on this journey, remember that you have the power to be the spouse your partner needs, but it requires a genuine commitment to growth and change. Draw inspiration from 1 John 4, which reminds us that love is from God and encourages us to love one another wholeheartedly.
