The Nature of God: Discovering His True Character

By Vincent & Valerie Woodard

Welcome to another episode of Couples Pursuit Live Bible Study Edition! Today, we’re diving deep into understanding the nature of God and why it’s so important for us to know His true character. Join us in our discussion as we uncover the mysteries of God’s love, power, and plan for us.

The Serpent’s Temptation and Our Struggle with Sin

In Genesis 3:1, Adam and Eve encounter the serpent, who challenges them to go against God’s command. The serpent convinces Eve that if she eats from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, she will become like God. Despite knowing what God had said, Eve succumbs to the temptation, setting in motion the story of humanity’s struggle with sin.

Understanding God’s Nature and Character

Throughout the Bible, we find numerous examples of God’s nature and character. From the love He shows to His children to the consequences He imposes for disobedience, God’s true nature is revealed. We often hear people say that God is love and all-powerful, but we also see examples where people who sinned faced severe consequences.

The Purpose of the Law

The law was given to the Children of Israel to establish God’s rule on earth and to teach them the difference between sin and righteousness. As Romans 5:13 states, “sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law.” The purpose of the law was to show humanity that we needed a savior, and that savior is Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ: The Fulfillment of the Law

Jesus came to fulfill the law, taking upon Himself the sins of the world. He showed us how to live, love, and trust in God’s plan for us. As friends of God, we must remember that He is not a vengeful or harmful force in our lives. Instead, He is the source of love, forgiveness, and redemption.

Spending Time with God and Knowing His True Nature

To truly know God’s nature, we must spend time with Him in prayer and meditation on His Word. By doing so, we align ourselves with His will, allowing us to experience His love, grace, and blessings. Do not let fear or guilt keep you from coming to God, for He desires to have a close relationship with each of us.

Confession, Repentance, and Salvation

Confessing our sins and repenting is an essential part of our relationship with God. By confessing, we agree with God’s assessment of our actions, and by repenting, we turn away from sin. If we confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord and believe in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead, we are saved (Romans 10:9).

Closing Thoughts

We hope that our discussion has helped you better understand the nature of God and His true character.

May the Lord bless you, keep you, make His face shine upon you, be gracious to you, and give you peace until we meet again on Couples Pursue Bible Study Edition.
